Category: accessible Devices
Hello, all. I know several varieties of the LG phones will read text messages aloud, but I am not sure specifically what models. I believe the NV does, but I was also told the VX 5400 does. I am eligible for a phone upgrade from Verizon, and was hoping some of you could tell me which LG phones read texts aloud. The VX 5400 would be the easiest to get my hands on, if indeed it does read them. Any info would be helpful.
I don't believe the 5400 does. The env2 does and I think the dare or the decoy. Things could have updated though. I got my phone in August.
The samsung gleam does as well.
wow you guys are sO lucky, there is NOTHING in the LG product line up here in Canada that Talk, I have a LG MUZIQ, it is only 7 months old and the camera is already busted, I am hating it a bit, but have 2 1/2 years till this stupid contract is over...
As one to always ask contentious questions, why do people still use the LG line of phones, which only make a token gesture at accessibility? I will say we don't have those over here, but I used to find even a demo of one of the access packages on a phone would be better than something like that, at least until one can afford to pay for talks or mobile speak.
Just curious.
I'm pretty sure the 5400 doesn't read texts. I've never had one, but I remember hearing other people talk about it.
I know it used to be that the LG phones were cheaper (I don't know if they still are). You could almost get one of them for free with an upgrade. Most of the phones that are compatible with Talks or Mobile Speak tend to be really expensive, and if money's tight, it's probably easier to go with something cheaper. But I see what you mean; LG just made a half attempt at accessibility without taking their product the whole way. Like talking caller ID's that you can't program because the menus don't talk.
If you're willing to use one of the higher end LG phones, you get a pretty good stab at accessibility. I wasn't convinced of it until recently, My moto q died, and so I just bought a used ENV off ebay to have a back up. Until I bought another smart phone. I've been able to ad contacts read text messages, know whose calling me know which calls I've missed, and play music. Not to bad for a phone I paid 45 bucks for! Trust me I have been using CF products since 05 but I'm impressed with new devices like the gleme and ENV that offer a fairly reasonable level of speech output for blind users.
The 9900 will read text messages, and I believe the NV 2 will also. As for your question about still using the LG line of products, not everyone wants to either pay for or learn to use mobile speaks or talks. Personally, I don't have the time or interest in doing so. If I want to search the web or read emails, I have a computer for that. I don't need to be entertained every single second I'm somewhere. There is something nice about actually interacting with the environment around me.
Price price price, that is the ultimate answer. lol!
When I renewed my contract with vzw, I got 2 lg phones on my family plan for around $30.
It's funny, as much as I want a fancy mobile speak phone, I often wonder, how much would I use the features? Daily? Weekly? Not to mention web access is extra.
Thanks for the answers. it's interesting because many of these phones whichare so expensive to you in the US, they can be free or a small charge as an upgrade here, so the only real expense is the software needed, and one provider will even supply talks for free.
The env 2 is awesome. The only problem with the dare and the voyager whitch also does is both of these phones are touch screen. Your best bet in my humble opinion is the env2.
